The Quay Brothers
The Quay Brothers are identical twins who were born in rural Pennsylvania and have worked for many years in England. Polish surrealism is one of their major influences. As I mentioned in my last post, there's an exhibit on them at MoMA right now, which is really nice, especially if you can get in for free because you're either a student or because a kindly member of the museum just happens to see you and ask if you want in to get in for free, which is what happened to my dad yesterday.
The first two videos here are music videos for the band His Name is Alive. The third is an excerpt from "Street of Crocodiles," one of the brothers' most well-known films, which is based on the novel by Bruno Schulz.
Warning - You probably want to have your sound down a bit if you're going to play that first video, because it starts kind of loudly and scarily.

Oh, gosh. I went to the MoMA around five years ago and felt like I was tripping out when I got to one floor that was lit totally in amber light.
Does it ever seem like a lot of people just put together some pieces of junk, or splash some paint down on the canvas, and call it art? Or maybe it is art, just in its most esoteric, nonsensical form. Hah, I have no idea.
