Flapper dress.

Earlier this month, I ordered a flapper-ish dress from Topshop. It arrived yesterday, and while I do like it, I don't love it enough to justify the price, so back it goes. At least I'll always have these pictures to remember it by.

Sock heritage.

I visited Keeler Tavern in Ridgefield, CT, this weekend, and loved it; there's no historical style I like more than American colonial. When I was in England, I really missed seeing colonial-style houses and old stone walls. There are old stone walls in England, but they're not quite as ubiquitous or charmingly disheveled as the ones in New York and New England.

Oh and yeah, that's a musket ball from the Revolutionary War lodged in the facade of the building.

The tavern had a little museum attached to it where I saw these knitted stockings. It's strange to think that of all the things I would be doing for the rest of the day, almost all of them would be foreign to a person from colonial times - going on the internet, taking a shower, watching Inspector Lewis, eating food from an electric oven - with the exception of knitting, which would be virtually unchanged.

In fact, I knit this sock based on an old Welsh pattern shortly thereafter:

Cat's paw.

Maybe it's the name, but I really love cat's paw rugs. I would love to have one of my own - and an apartment of my own in which to put it.

Outfits.

A few more outfits from Polyvore; these may very well be my last. I think I've expended my fashion creativity pretty much.

Exploring New England:

A day at school:

If I were back at Oxford now ...

Going to Stone Barns:

Going to Rhinebeck:

A trip to Iceland:

Good old and new.

The use of Polyvore has led me to realize that my taste is really not that diverse. Even when given the option of exploring outfits made with an endless range of clothes, I tend to gravitate toward the same exact things and combinations of things. Like these J. Crew shorts that I seem never to tire of, and my Sperry Topsiders.

I don't tire of things easily. Like this college I'm going to now - I would go there for grad school, if it's my best choice academically. The fact that I've been here for three years doesn't deter me. I don't think I'd even blink if someone offered me a job there at the end of my graduate studies - I'd just take it and happily settle in to my closet-sized office* for all eternity.

Then again, I'm not completely averse to new things. Oxford was a new and very different thing. It may be that I don't like the things I like because they're familiar, but because they're just good in themselves. I can't imagine myself consigning myself for the rest of my life to a college if I really didn't like it in the first place. And I'm not saying that I do plan to stay here forever - only that it wouldn't bother me if I did. I'm just lucky in discovering a lot of things that I really like, relatively early on.

*Seriously, though, some of the professors' offices here actually used to be closets. I know one professor who has to keep his door open all the time if he wants to have enough oxygen to breathe.

Steven Alan: Fall 2010

If I had an extra million lying around, I would probably still wait for a sale before even thinking about buying anything from Steven Alan. It doesn't cost anything to admire the fall collection, though. I love how simple everything is.

Moominmug.

Check out this Moomin merchandise from FinnStyle! I love the first mug.

Toast Men: Fall 2010

If there was ever anything to justify two Toast posts in one week, this is it. Toast has launched a catalogue for men, and it is divine.

Favorite outfit.

Do any of you have a favorite outfit? I do, but it varies from season to season. For late summer/early fall, I am ridiculously fond of this combination: stripy shirt from the Gap, J. Crew shorts, and Sperry Topsiders.

For colder days, add my imitation-Toast cardigan (actually from the Gap) and I'm in heaven.

The Sperry Topsiders, incidentally, are new. They were on their maiden voyage on the campus when I stepped in a huge stupid piece of gum. What the hell, people. You're in college - be sensible with your gum-chewing selves!

Anyway, I thought I'd end this post with a few pictures of The Kitty. He likes to sleep in my yarn basket. He is also fond of sleeping on my sewing scraps.

Toast House and Home: Autumn 2010

Is that third picture not to die for? I searched around until I found a very similar tea cozy pattern and I am going to knit it, just as soon as I finish a million other things I have planned.
